Similarly, plans for the future are largely dictated by the collective doctrine of what is wrong, right, appropriate, or worthy. The same occurs when it comes to collective deliberations regarding the consequences of current actions. If this were not the case, it would be impossible to understand how each generation can repeat anew the grave mistakes of the past and be surprised by the “unintended” consequences. Untethered from the hive mind, otroverts perceive their place in history and time differently. Their personal experience of the present moment is not linked to that of all the other people who are also experiencing it, and their memories of the past are not clouded by the collective narrative. Because of Leaming reading speed their minimal connection to contemporary culture, mores, trends, and so on, their memories are more personal and rarely contemporaneous with those of any other human. If you asked a group of people to recount their memories of a particular moment in time, many of them would likely cite the song that was always playing on the radio or the style of clothing that was in vogue, whereas otroverts would recount a specific experience they had had. Otroverts, in other words, focus not on collective memory but on the self and their personal voyage through time. As a result, the otrovert’s sense of time is longitudinal: today is an outcome of yesterday, and tomorrow is a consequence of today. Every moment, and every memory, is as precious as the last.
